Her History

The Phoenix is a large 111-foot square-rigged sailing ship built by Hjorne and Jakobsen of Frederikshavn, Denmark in 1929 as a cargo sailing vessel.

Instead of traditional trade routes, she went on as an evangelical mission schooner for 20 years before being used for freight.

After a change of ownership, she was again transformed for a new activity, to serve as a filming platform.

In the Movies

The Phoenix has appeared in numerous feature films and TV series, earning there a great reputation in the world of cinema.

Recent productions she has worked on include "In the Heart of the Sea", "Poldark", "Taboo" and "Frontier".

In 1991, the Phoenix was converted into a 15th century caravel, the Santa Maria, for Ridley Scott's film "1492 Conquest of Paradise". In 1996, she had been converted into a brig and in this rig she has served as a set for: "Hornblower series", "Captain Sabretooth", "Voyage of Discovery", "Moll Flanders", "Frenchman's Creek", "The Scarlet Pimpernel", "Chronicles of Narnia: Voyage of the Dawn Treader".
